A Most Agreeable Companion

I am a full-time caregiver for a 98-year-old man. He and I have been living together, in his home, for eight months, and we are syncing quite well. Other than the occasional trip to the grocery store, or once spending four hours at a nearby cousin’s home, I have been here the whole time. When a person relies 85% on another to help facilitate the completion of his/her daily functions, it is important that this relationship weaves well.

In our situation, I am planning on being his assistant for the remainder of his life (or mine) and will continue to try to help him feel relevant. Last night he said to me, “I always tell you how appreciative I am for  your care of me, but you should also know that I think you are a most agreeable companion.”

What a wonderful compliment!
